Buck Island to Hospital Point

Today was a long and more interesting day then yesterday. We left our anchorage at Buck Island at 7:45 instead of 7:00 because the battery for the engine was dead. We got it running about a half hour later and started on our trip to Hospital Point. First we stopped at Coinjock Marina for fuel, trash, water and groceries. It was nice to see houses and buildings again, instead of long canals with nothing but trees and water.

We pulled out of Coinjock and as we turned out of the narrow canal we saw an old bunker that used to be used to protect the channel, but is no longer in use. That was cool.

We also saw a few Navy ships. We'll see plenty more of them in Norfolk, tomorrow. They were really cool.

It was a long day of bridges and locks. We went through 14 bridges today and 1 lock. One bridge- the Centerville Bridge, we missed by one minute. That's the worst bridge. But we expected the bridge tender not to open it for us, so we just waited the half-hour for the next opening.

We met a boat named V, in the lock and Zani caught one of their lines and helped them tie up. They were three guys heading strait to New York and pulling all-nighters. So we followed them through the rest of the bridges. One bridge we had to wait over an hour for it to open through a squal. So while the thunderstorms came rolling in, we anchored and waited till a barge came and opened the bridge for all of us boats who were waiting. (Including V who had anchored not far from us )
We finally reached Hospital Point around 6:45 and anchored in the crowded marina. V stopped to get gas as we pulled into the anchorage, so we waved goodbye as they weren't planning on stopping till they reached New York.

There was some sort of festival going on in Hospital Point, so the marinas and anchorages were crowded. Loud music was playing and you could here people clapping and cheering as it started raining. After hanging out on deck for a little while we went below and I (Victoria) made grilled cheese for Dad and I as Zani had already ate. It was a long tiring day, but an interesting one.

Signing off,

Victoria
