It was sooooo cool to go through Norfolk again and to see all the Navy ships. Now that we are both older, we appreciate the ships more. I took tons of pictures of the ships. I found them so fascinating.
You can't really tell how big the ship is right? Okay look down. This is really zoomed in of the men on board...
Now can you tell how big it is? lol
Isn't this thing massive? And they all look exactly alike. If you look way up top you can barely see the American flag. The things floating on the water, are to block civilian ships from approaching them and checking them out.
Here is another picture that shows how big this ship is. Alright see the sailboat on your left? It is only around 36 feet!!
I was so excited. Like I said, I took a bazillion pictures. And the wind was perfect blowing your hair a bit. The smell of salt air filled our noses and the sun was not too hot and the temperature was what I consider, perfect. So it was completely wonderful.
We soon were past the Navy ships and had our faces against the breeze. It was a little bit more breezy now that we were in the bay. We spotted a defensive bunker with a flag waving beautifully in the salty air.
Isn't or Nation wonderful? A place were we we can praise the Lord of the Universe and not die for it. A place where freedom rings. But these ships remind us that freedom isn't free and that it was bought with a price. Just like Jesus bought us for a price. Let Americans always proclaim "In God we Trust."
After a few hours or so we pulled into School Neck Point in Mobjack Bay. I had read a description about the anchorage in one of our cruising guides, and this place did not seem to match the description. Mostly marsh grass, where I thought I read about trees and woods. The place didn't do much for us. The only thing we really liked was that the water looked very clean. (Specially compared to the Neuse River.) Dad looks at me, "We're in the right place, right? School Neck Point?"
I looked back at the guide. "No, it says here Put in Creek..."
Dad had given me early three options to anchor at. A place labeled 1, 2 and 3. I said two, so where did we go? We went to place 1. Oops. That kind of stunk, because it was a long way in. But we got in early, so we decided to turn around and go to the place we intended to go in the first place. (Put in Creek.)
Needless to say, we are now in Put in Creek. We like this place much better. It has a lot more character to it, and it is busy enough with boat traffic for us to not get board.
It has a calm, cool, peaceful atmosphere. Lots of osprey and egrets are standing by the water line or perched on pilings. We are the only other boat anchored here right now, but a small boat (A Boston Whaler to be exact) with a nice man came up to us and said hi. We asked if we could get into town. There was a boat ramp very close by that he said we could go to; but he said we would have to walk several miles to get to town. He then told us that if we went down the creek a mile by dinghy that we could get off there and we would be right in the heart of town. I remembered reading something about that in the cruising guide and it sounds like it would be fun. So we're thinking about going into town tomorrow to check it out and get some groceries. I'm looking forward to that. We just got out from swimming. We were in for a couple of hours it was wonderful. We sat on floating cushions while we scrubbed the scum off the water line on the boat. That was actually fun. Trying to balance on a floating square while scrubbing the boat and kicking your feet and flapping your wings so the current wouldn't take you away. We have suction cups handles that we stuck into the side of the boat to keep us a close enough to the boat to scrub. But one handle was not strong enough for us all to hold on to never mind big enough so the suction constantly came un-suctioned (if that's a word.) So that was funny. We ended up leaving Dad the handle, and Victoria and I flopped around like injured ducks.
We are planning to have a half day here in Mobjack Bay, and then we'll go on to Delta ville and anchor there tomorrow night. What a beautiful day. Miss you all back at home.
God bless you all,
Zani

I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed picturing you and Victoria flopping around like injured ducks. Hahaha. And the word you were looking for was "un-suctioned" not "on suctioned". You were close!
So glad that Victoria sent the link to this blog. :-)
